John Maretich is a founding director of Rocky Mountain Mink Refuge and has been an integral part of the organization since its inception. His combination of technical expertise, practical problem-solving skills, and commitment to animal welfare makes him an invaluable part of RMMR’s operations. He is involved with many of the animals on a daily basis and has personal experience with the routines, challenges, and responsibilities that come with caring for both domestic and wild mustelids.
Professionally, Maretich has an extensive background in software engineering and technology infrastructure. He currently works in the technology sector with Future Family, where he has held senior engineering and platform-focused responsibilities. His professional experience includes software development, systems and platform management, DevOps, continuous integration and deployment, Linux-based systems, Docker, automation, secure programming, and technology strategy.
Being closely involved in RMMR has also given Maretich a unique perspective on the realities of rescue and wildlife rehabilitation. He sees firsthand the amount of work that occurs outside of public view—from daily feeding, cleaning, enrichment, and enclosure maintenance to preparing supplies, improving habitats, responding to unexpected emergencies, and supporting animals throughout their time in care.
Maretich shares his wife’s deep commitment to RMMR’s mission and the animals it serves, supporting the dedication to responsible, humane, and species-appropriate care, advancing understanding and appreciation of mustelids, and ensuring that animals in need are given the best possible opportunity for a safe and appropriate future.
