Adoption Agreement

By signing this adoption agreement, you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions, and they will be legally binding. Any disagreement to these terms will result in the immediate cancellation of the adoption.
herein known as the "Adopter".
Adopter understands that RMMR will not be held liable for any incorrectly provided or falsified information on their part that may lead to any physical harm of any property, person(s), or animal(s).
Adopter accepts that a representative of RMMR may request to perform an in-person house visit to determine if placement is appropriate. Notice will be given at least 24-hrs in advance.
Adopter understands that they will be required to have this animal seen by a vet within 1-2 weeks of adoption and that they are required to provide proof that this has been complied with. (Due to the current overbooked schedules of most vets being at least a month out, we will take that into consideration for an extension.)
Ferret must be seen by the vet every year for their annual health check-up, and whenever they show signs of illness or injury.
Adopter is aware that the health of a ferret is not guaranteed, and that their health or personality can change over time.
Adopter will properly house the ferret(s) indoors during all seasons. Adopter will not let them roam outside, unless properly harnessed and leashed to avoid escape. Outdoor enclosures should be appropriately proofed and provide ample shade and cooling, and only be used for temporary periods of time.
Utah is a very hot state, and the outdoor temperatures can be fatal to ferrets, thus we recommend they be kept indoors through all seasons. If you wish to allow them time to play in an outdoors enclosure, be mindful of time and supervise, ensure there is shade and temperature control methods in place. Ferrets do not sweat and can overheat quickly.
Adopter understands that if their present living conditions change to where they can no longer care for this animal, that they MUST contact RMMR for their surrender. No selling or giving away of this animal may occur without explicit written permission from RMMR.
Adopter understands that it is their responsibility to keep this animal away from health hazards such as other animal/baby toys, and dangerous objects around the house. If a blockage occurs, they will be required to seek emergency veterinary care.
Adopter will provide this animal with at least one of the recommended foods and that fresh food and clean water will always be available. Ferrets imprint on their food and switching them to another food can be stressful for all involved.
Please always provide this animal with at least ONE of the foods it is used to eating, along with providing nutritionally sufficient and species appropriate food.
Adopter agrees to not cut the ferret(s)' teeth or have them declawed. Neither will they hit or use any physical punishments for discipline such as nose flicking, ear pulling or scruffing to dominate. Doing either is inhumane and animal cruelty charges will be filed.
Adopter understands that RMMR may inquire from time to time as to how the adopted animal is doing and may require photo or video proof.
RMMR will not make a nuisance of itself. Adopters are allowed to message RMMR with updates of their own or when they have questions or require advice.
Adopter is fully aware that bonded ferrets may not be separated for any reason and that if they can no longer keep a bonded pair or group together, that they will return them to the care of RMMR.
Bonded ferrets will grieve the separation or loss of a bonded mate/friend to the death. Should one of the bonded ferrets pass naturally or due to a serious health issue be euthanized, the Adopter is not required to return the remaining ferret.
Adopter will not cause or allow to be caused any unnecessary pain, suffering, hardship or negligence to the ferret(s).
Adopter understands that we highly recommend at least a 2 week quarantine period to allow the ferret(s) to acclimate and destress, BEFORE the introduction to any existing ferret or business of ferrets.
A quarantine period does not only offer a safe period of time in which to observe any illness, but allows the ferret(s) to get used to their new home and new people, BEFORE the stress of dealing with other animals, especially an existing business of ferrets, in which integration may need to be done slowly at first.
Adopter is aware that RMMR cannot in good conscience recommend any interaction or cohabitation of the ferret(s) and any other animals, and that the adopter assumes all potential risk involved.
Interspecies relationships should always be played by ear and under direct and attentive supervision as accidents can happen within seconds. Prey species such as hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, rats, mice, fish, rabbits, ducks, chickens, lizards, etc. should always be kept away from your ferret(s).
Adopter has been made aware of any and all potential issues or behavioral conditions involved with the ferret(s) they are adopting and agrees not to hold RMMR liable for any damages to any person(s) or property that can result from these conditions.
Eg. Ferret that is a biter, or has physical disabilities, known health conditions, etc.
