Michiko Berceau is a Certified Veterinary Technician and Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator with more than 18 years of experience in wildlife, zoo, and exotic animal care. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology and currently serves as the director for the Wildlife Center of Salt Lake, where she works with native wildlife and protected avian species under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
Prior to this role, she served as a Veterinary Technician and Registrar at the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium and as Lead Veterinary Technician, Registrar and Quarantine Keeper at Tracy Aviary in Utah.
Her clinical veterinary experience includes positions with Mountain West Veterinary Specialists, Parrish Creek Veterinary Clinic, Utah Veterinary Center, and Brickyard Animal Hospital. Her work has encompassed general veterinary medicine as well as emergency and critical care, giving her a broad foundation in patient care across multiple species.
Beyond hands-on animal care, Berceau has demonstrated both organizational leadership and professional development within the veterinary field. While serving as the President of the Utah Society of Veterinary Technicians and Assistants (USVTA), she has contributed to the advancement of veterinary technician roles through professional education and career development.
Throughout her own career, Berceau has remained committed to promoting safe, responsible, and legal practices involving non-traditional species. She is a strong advocate for the humane treatment and welfare of exotic and wild animals, with a particular focus on protecting vulnerable species from illegal, unethical, and exploitative activities.
Berceau’s involvement in wildlife rehabilitation began through volunteer work with the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah (WRCNU) and has remained an important part of her professional and personal commitment to animal welfare. She has also participated in conservation and field efforts including tree planting, oil spill cleanup, wildlife banding and tagging, and native species population monitoring.
Her passion for animal welfare, conservation, and lifelong learning continues to shape her work and advocacy.
